Get set for a jet-setting career in the aviation industry where you may even take to the skies in the pilot seat. If you have ever dreamed of becoming a part of the crew, the Diploma in Civil Aviation was designed precisely for you.
You will hone both specialist and management skills that will make you a valued addition to airlines and airports around the world. Practical exposure is a vital part of the programme where you will receive training in an actual aviation hangar environment with a built-in civil jet cockpit and our new Virtual Aerodrome Simulator.
You will also have the opportunity to earn a pilot licence with the Singapore Youth Flying Club and internships with companies like Tiger Airways and Jetstar.
As Singapore retains its status as a world-class international airport and with the new Changi Airport Terminal 4 in the works, the opportunities for a working professional in the local aviation management industry are promising.
The Diploma in Civil Aviation will equip you with a combination of specialist and management skills to prepare you for work in airlines, airports, etc. You will gain practical experience working in The ARCH – a purpose-built facility replicating an actual aviation hangar environment with a real business jet. RP’s new Virtual Aerodrome Simulator, the first simulator in a higher learning institution in Singapore, will give you an immersive learning experience in controlling air traffic.
Aspiring pilots in this course can also work towards obtaining a pilot licence with the Singapore Youth Flying Club during their 20-week internship. Internships with companies such as Tiger Airways and Jetstar will give you experience in areas such as airline fleet management, airline planning, flight operations, and aircrew management.
DCA students supplement the knowledge they obtain in the classroom with hands-on activities with a state-of-the-art A320 simulator in the laboratory and also an actual aircraft in a purpose built hangar in RP.
Software such as Minitab for Statistics, Flexsim for simulation, flight management system software, route planning, network optimisation and many others is also extensively used in the modules of this diploma.
DCA students will go through a 20-week internship programme during their course in RP. They will work in prominent aviation companies such as Changi Airport Group, Changi Airport International, Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, Singapore Aviation Academy, SATS, Jetstar Asia, Air Asia, Diethlem Keller Aviation, Eurocopter and ST Aerospace.
Students will also have the unique opportunity of participating in an Airline Experience Programme as part of their 20 week internship. Students in this programme will be able to fly as cabin crew to various destinations and also perform airline management duties when they are not flying.
There are also industry-related Final Year Projects where students get to interact with professionals and industry practitioners in the process of working on industry-related projects and solving real-life work problems in the aviation management environment.
To prepare students for a career in the aviation industry, DCA organises student overseas study trips to countries such as Malaysia, China and India. During such trips, DCA students will get to observe how aviation operations are conducted overseas. Such study trips broaden their perspectives and develop in them a global mindset that is valued in the aviation industry.
DCA also organises Flying Experience Programmes for interested students to try their hand at piloting an actual aircraft.
RP’s civil aviation graduates are equipped and trained to work in all areas of airline businesses and airport terminal operations. Some of these potential job roles include:
Graduates may also choose to pursue further education and to this end, all our diploma programmes are designed to meet the requirements for advanced standing in local and overseas Institutions of Higher Learning (IHLs).
Degree programmes that DCA has obtained advanced standing with are Bachelor of Engineering degree at the Australian National University and Bachelor in Aviation Management Degree at Massey University in New Zealand.
For more information about university pathways, visit RP's Further Studies. DCA graduates can also apply to local IHLs such as National University of Singapore and Singapore Management University.
