  • About the Market Research Lab (MR Lab) 

    The Market Research Lab is a first-in-class laboratory setup to support R&D and extra-curriculum activities in RP. With 2 fully equipped focus group rooms, 2 observation rooms, a computer laboratory, and a physiological testing centre (including eye tracker, face reader, EEG, ECG and GSR), the marketing research laboratory provides School of Management and Communication (wef 1 April 2016)'s staff and students with the necessary equipment, resources and platform to explore cater to academic research as well as commercial projects.

    The laboratory offers invaluable hands-on experience to RP students taking the various modules offered by SMC.  It also provides a conducive environment to is staff to SMC staff to hone their research skills, obtain more in-depth training on the use of high-tech equipment as well as the opportunity to network and collaborate with industry players.

    The lab was launched officially on 29 July 2010 at a launch event attended by renowned industry partners which spiralled into several requests from the industry to conduct research using both traditional and physiological research methods. In past few years it has worked with several brand names in its portfolio of projects and continues to draw interest from the industry. The students also feel privileged to be able to try their hands on research facilities which even some market research agencies may not have.  Hence, the lab is a source of inspiration to both students and staff and offers a good platform for collaboration with industry.

    Facilities Information & Rental Rates

    Republic Polytechnic (RP) has designed and built state-of-the-art facilities that will enable clients to conduct focus group discussions. With two purpose-built focus group rooms with observation rooms, and sophisticated high definition monitoring, digital recording, voting and moderation equipment, the RP Market Research Laboratory (MR Lab) will provide an ideal environment in which you can conduct a focus group on your Training Needs Analysis.  

    Focus Group Room 

    Each focus group room is equipped with two wide-angled cameras and a 360°rotating camera with two high definition microphones.

    The first focus group room is designed and furnished to provide a relaxed environment for respondents to be as comfortable as they can.

    The second focus group room offers a more formal “boardroom” configuration.

    The diversity provided by these two rooms allows us to offer clients a choice of environment to provide the most ideal setting in which to hold a focus group discussion.

    The discussions will be filmed and recorded through a high definition digital system and will be made available to students, staff and interested parties.

     Observation Room

    Each focus group room is connected to an observation room.

    Observation rooms are equipped with two-way mirrors, 22-inch monitors and speakers that allow the observer to oversee the discussion in a comfortable, controllable setting.


    Interactive voting devices and moderation equipment 

    Our focus group rooms are equipped with Activotes™ devices that allow interactive discussion through a digital white board, instantaneous voting system, projectors and speakers.

    Physiological testing systems  

    Our laboratory is also equipped with physiological testing equipment such as eye tracker, face reader, Galvanic Skin Response (GSR), EEG (Electro-Encephalogram) and ECG (Electro-Cardiogram).
