Macau, Hong Kong 12 April 2012 - Republic Polytechnic (RP) student Mark Lee won two medals in the International Diving Invitational held in Macau on 12 to 16 April 2012. The Republic Poly student and national diver came in first in the Open Men Synchronised 3m Springboard category and third in the Open Men 3m Springboard category.
Diving is a growing sport in Singapore and Mark stated that diving is his passion. The lean and bronzed first year Diploma in Sports and Exercise Sciences (R26) student said, "It was the thrill of somersaulting off a diving board that made me fall in love with the sport. Whether it is 3m or 10m, it is a feeling like no other."

As Mark is part of the national diving team, he realised that he has to find a balance for his studies and his trainings. With training sessions of six times a week during the school term, and twelve times during the holidays, they were challenges for Mark to focus on his studies.
"It is something that I am still struggling with, as my day does not end until 10pm o’clock at night every day. Even when riding on the train on my way to practice sessions, I am doing my reflection journal and writing essays. But I’m getting used to this kind of schedule. I just focus at the task at hand." he said.
In addition, he shared that he would like to be a sports doctor in the future and has credited that RP's Problem-Based Learning (PBL) system has made him more resourceful in finding solutions to problems.
He said, "PBL helps me to adapt quickly and find solutions that I may face during training. If I struggle with a certain dive, I would find some videos on Youtube of world class divers and learn from them."
