Singapore, 1 August 2012 – Despite having to juggle between school and work, Republic Polytechnic (RP) freshman Nur Diyana Binte Mohamed Haris overcame the odds to receive the Kelly Services Scholarship at the inaugural RP Freshmen Scholarship Ceremony on 1 August 2012.
The Kelly Services Scholarship is one of RP Freshmen Scholarships, offered by RP in partnership with industry partners. It is a bond-free scholarship worth $2,500 per academic year.
On top of her academic pursuits and active involvement in co-curricular activities, the Diploma in Customer Relationship and Service Management (R34) student works part-time as a retail associate to support her family. She admitted that most of the time things do get very draining in her hectic schedule. However, she has learnt to prioritise her various responsibilities and balance her time well.
She said, "I don't think there's really a way to overcome it because when you think about life, everyone is also tired. Thus, I choose to look at the brighter side of life and to strive towards my goals."
Diyana's leadership qualities have been demonstrated since her secondary school days. She was the chairperson of her secondary school's symphonic band for two years. Under her leadership, her school clinched two bronze awards during the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Central Judging for concert bands in 2007 and 2009. Diyana continues to be passionate in music. She is currently a member of RP's Jive and STORM Interest Groups (IG).
The Kelly Services Scholarship has helped Diyana and her family to continue to pursue her studies in RP without having to worry about her school fees. She shared her motto in life, "Study smart, work hard. Play harder when I attain success."
