Student Development & Welfare Fund (a member
of the Education Central Fund)
Charity Registration No.: 01740
Charity Registration Date: 1 Apr 2003
Objects of the
Fund
In view of the tightening of guidelines for charities and Institutions of Public Character, we have reviewed the objects of this fund and the Development and Project Fund. As the latter is inactive and after consulting IRAS, we have dissolved the latter and expanded the scope of the Student Development & Welfare Fund to take over the intended objects of the defunct Development and Project Fund.
The expanded scope of objects for this Fund now
covers the following:
- To provide bursaries, equipment loans and other forms of financial assistance schemes to students and scholarships/book prizes to students who excel academically and in core curricular activities.
- To provide funding support for activities associated with student development, welfare and social activities. This can include donation of computer and other equipment in lieu of cash.
- To provide funding for continuing education, upgrading courses/seminars/lectures and other programmes for staff.

Follow-up Social Enterprise Trip to Galle, Sri Lanka
4 students, led by staff from Centre of Innovation and Enterprise, went for a social enterprise trip to Galle, Sri Lanka on from 3 to 9 June 2006. This was a follow-up on the project they worked on in the Galle region in September 2005. During this trip, the students focused on individual household Enterprise Development through needs analysis and training. They interviewed the people and analysed their skill profiles for businesses they intend to start. Based on the group’s combined assessment and with the help of community advisors, the students conducted basic enterprise training sessions for the people, such as making candles and greeting cards.
Our students also engaged in community projects such as helping the community of the camps to plant crops for their consumption, creating study centres and distributing milk to the community.
