Our Physical Infrastructure @ Woodlands

Learning Hub

The central nucleus of the new campus contains 11 identical learning Pods (8-9-storeys high) and the Faculty Centre. The 11 learning Pods house study clusters and dry labs. They are unified by two elliptical decks of common facilities, namely the Lawn and the Agora. These two decks form a large, continuous and non-hierarchical student/semi-public domain where informal activities will be held.

Agora

The Agora is a democratic, student-oriented and experimental public realm. The Agora encourages cross-disciplinary interaction, which is critical in this Knowledge Age. A large, continuous and sheltered informal meeting space for students, the Agora may also be thought of simply as an extension of the void deck concept familiar to the locals.

Learning Pods

Eleven Learning Pods house the Study Clusters and Dry Labs. These study cluster-dry lab blocks of buildings are called Learning Pods, as they are the encapsulation of educational facilities where learning, dissemination, exchange and resolution of information and ideas take place. The 11 Pods allow for the different combinations and permutation of programmatic zoning of labs, facilitators’ offices and study clusters.

Integration with Nature

The Woodlands Campus is surrounded by the greenery of the Regional Park, the green fields of the Sports Complex and existing vegetation to the East. The campus blends into the existing site contours. Public spaces are placed around these natural elements to enhance the appreciation of nature. A series of both formalised and informal courtyards, lawns, and green plazas are composed along main circulation routes to provide visual and spatial relief within the campus.

Sports facilities

A 3-storey Indoor Sports hall houses facilities such as the gymnasium, multi-purpose courts, badminton courts, table tennis, rock climbing wall, martial arts (judo/karate/ kendo) hall and the staff centre. The multi-purpose courts, with viewing gallery, are fully air-conditioned and serve as choice venues for indoor competitions.
