Student Life Activity Points do help when applying to universities

Reports have shown that most industries and employers do consider their potential employee's student life activity during a job interview

In Republic Polytechnic (RP), Student Life Activities play a key role in the holistic development of our students. RP has lined up various sports, clubs and societies to enhance a balanced student life. These activities emphasize social interaction and each student life activity has its specific objectives. For example sports develop robustness, fair play and team spirit. The performing arts hope to instill appreciation for the rich culture of a multi-racial society. Outdoor Education Club and Community Service societies hope to inculcate self-reliance, resilience, discipline and a spirit of service to others. Apart from instilling all these values, student activities in RP also let students to experience entrepreneurial spirit, a risk-taking attitude and appreciation for aesthetics.

The overall student life activity framework in RP is committed to developing character and instilling core values within the recommended Desired Outcomes of Education for post-secondary school education as stipulated by the Ministry of Education. Best of all, pupils will be rewarded student life activity points for enriching themselves with the activities recommended by RP. Student life activity points will be awarded for continual participation, leadership role and the level of performance/achievements in the chosen student Interest Group (IG). With these student life activity points, students could apply for admission to the universities. Reports have also shown that most industries and employers do take into consideration their potential employee's student activities during the job interview.

There is both land-based and water-based sports/activities to participate in RP. We believe in giving students the choice to be both participative and competitive. Students can join sports/activities to simply find out more about them, but if they are better at these sports/activities, they could be chosen to represent RP in local competitions like the IVP (Institute-Varsity-Polytechnics) competitions.

The following will be some of the sports that RP is planning to embark/has embarked on: Archery, Badminton, Basketball, Bowling, Canoeing, Dragon-Boating, Golf, Hockey, Kick-Boxing (non-competitive), Martial Arts (such as Judo, Tae-Kwon Do, Silat), Soccer, Swimming, Tennis, Touch Rugby and Water polo.

In addition, the following will be some of the clubs & societies that RP is planning to set up: Gymnastics & Cheerleading Club, Intellectual Games Club (such as International & Chinese Chess), Service-Learning and Community Service Clubs, Computer and Info-Com Club, Performing Arts Club and Outdoor Adventure Club.
