The Industry Orientation Programme

Professional Profiling

For this component, you are required to prepare a detailed history of a person who has completed a polytechnic diploma in Singapore. You are free to choose your own "role model", or if you wish, a number of persons whom you consider to be role models. Your history should include data collated from a wide variety of sources, including personal interviews with your model(s).

Creative Engagement

For this component, you will need to involve yourself in a creative activity or variety of activities designated and/ or organised by the Schools and Centres for this purpose. Taken alone or together, these must be of sufficient standing to make up the weight assigned to this component of the IOP. You may, for example, use your participation in the Student's Council or in a major competition as activities of Creative Engagement, if so endorsed by the Schools.

Design Project

Working in a group of up to 5 persons, you will undertake a project relevant to your diploma programme. Under the supervision of your mentor, your team will be expected to define the objectives of your project, develop a plan of action, execute the plan to a reasonable degree, and evaluate its outcome. You will also be expected to take corrective action if necessary, and prepare a technical report of the whole enterprise. You should bear in mind the fact that a premium will be put on projects which embrace a multi-disciplinary approach.

Assessment of the IOP

Upon completion of each component, your mentor, together with an independent examiner, will conduct a formal evaluation of your work. They will also interview you to ascertain the level of competence you have achieved in your area of choice, as well as to satisfy themselves of the effort you have put into each exercise. The grade they award you for each component will go towards the computation of your final diploma mark. You will, however, be allowed to re-submit work for each component if it obtained a fail grade the first time round.
