Engineering

The School of Engineering (SEG) offered five diploma programmes during the year, namely:

Diploma in Communications & Automation Electronics (DCAE),
Diploma in Biomedical Electronics (DBME),
Diploma in Industrial & Operations Management (DIOM),
Diploma in Aerospace Avionics (DAA),
Diploma in Supply Chain Management (DSCM)

At the end of AY06-07, SEG had an enrolment of 598 students and 68 staff members.

Achievements

For the first time, RP hosted the Singapore Robotics Games (SRG) 2007 at our Woodlands campus. SEG was the organiser for the event which saw a total of 810 participants from local Institutes of Higher Learning (IHL). One of the Final Year Project teams from SEG, did RP proud by coming in third in the intelligent robot competition, out of a total of 22 teams.

Collaborations

A collaboration agreement was signed between RP, Aussino and NEC, formalising our partnership in the latest project by Supply Chain Management TDC: RFID-enabled Inventory Management System with the Retail Industry.

Events

The RP Technology Series Seminar: RFID – New Applications and Opportunities was held on 13 September 2006 at RP. This seminar cum exhibition featured speakers from the industry who provided insights into the new applications and opportunities in RFID. SEG introduced and showcased its technology developments in RFID and RFID-related fields such as supply chain management, embedded system, FPGA design and wireless technologies such as ZigBee.

SEG hosted the Land Transport Authority (LTA) Joint Poly Exhibition for the first time at our new Woodlands campus on 10 January 2007. The momentous event featured the Final Year Students’ Projects in collaboration with LTA, from all five local Polytechnics.

Outreach

As part of Engineering Week 06, SEG organised a series of hands-on workshops, aimed at raising awareness on the dynamic world of engineering among secondary students. Over 400 hundred secondary school students participated in the workshops.
