International Outreach

RP’s wholly owned subsidiary - Republic Polytechnic International (RPI) - was set-up to facilitate the promotion of RP, to conduct RP Entrance Tests, as well as to manage overseas industrial orientation and student exchange programmes for RP students. Through its overseas student recruitment efforts, about 310 students were recruited from various countries, including China, India, Malaysia Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Vietnam.

RPI has also assisted in the training of more than 165 international students who attended the English Proficiency Course prior to enrolling to RP. RPI conceptualised and coordinated a student exchange project that took place in Hyderabad, India, where students from RP and a school in Hyderabad spent about a year discussing topics of common interest online, before culminating in a trip to Hyderabad by RP students to present their findings. In addition, six workshops on PBL, Creative Learning and related areas were conducted for overseas educators and parents.

To broaden the global mindset of RP students, RPI put in place an overseas work attachment programme. Twenty-five students completed the pilot programme in Shanghai and Tianjin. RPI will be looking at creating more learning and internship opportunities in emerging economies like India, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

RP continually seeks progression paths for our students to pursue further studies in reputable institutions locally and abroad. Twelve new articulation arrangements were secured with universities in Australia, New Zealand, UK and China. These included the University of Sydney (Australia), University of South Australia (Australia), RMIT (Australia), Massey University (New Zealand), University of Sheffield (UK) & University of Stirling (UK).

A partnership with Murdoch University was established in which diploma graduates in Engineering can do their third year of Murdoch’s four-year Bachelor of Engineering courses in RP before proceeding to Perth, Australia to complete their final year of studies.
