Renewing Our Business Excellence Commitment

QEHS

RP has embarked on a project to develop a comprehensive Business Continuity Management (BCM) system. This will enable RP to address any contingencies which may arise, and enable us to continue our operations under various possible scenarios. Upon completion of this project, RP aims to be among the first organisation in Singapore to be certified to the TR19 standard for BCM by the 3rd quarter of 2007.

RP has been successfully re-certified to the QEHS system comprising ISO9001, ISO14001 and OHSAS 18001 in November 2006. Some of the positive aspects highlighted by the auditor were:

  • The top management and staff’s commitment in the implementation of QEHS management systems
  • Proactive efforts in promoting QEHS awareness
  • A well-equipped fire command centre
  • Well demonstrated use of IT for organisational performance
  • Good relations with the media, schools and community at large

Building on Learning Needs

Having moved into the new premises in April 2006, the library now occupies 9,400 square metres. More than 40,000 books were shelved after two weeks of meticulous planning, shelving, labelling, system testing and staff training. The new library was opened to staff and students on 10 April 2006.

The library now boasts a café, four quiet rooms, four programming spaces of varying sizes, one training room and a language laboratory. The total seating capacity has increased significantly over 2,000. This new library also houses the IT-Helpdesk as well as the Student Career Centre.

Having incorporated a new check-out system, the library now allows students and staff to make use of their ez-link card to borrow books and pay library fines. The need for an additional library card is thus eliminated.

The library has since amassed 52,000 books as at March 2007. Since its opening in April 2006, staff and students have made over 500,000 visits to the library. This is a 60% increase from the previous year. The number of loans made during the year was about 63,000.
