The RP flag was kept flying high with an unprecedented flurry of achievements by the sports teams. History was made as the Basketball IG (female) clinched RP’s first ever Gold medal at the inaugural POL-ITE (Polytechnic – Institute of Technical Education) Games 2006. Team Republic’s medal haul at the Games was one Gold, four Silver and three Bronze.

Not to be outdone, the Floorball (M) team went a step further and established itself as one of the premier teams at RP with a Silver medal at the Institute-Varsity-Polytechnic (IVP) Games AY06-07.

Sports teams embarked on overseas sports programs and competitions to broaden their horizons and engage in a refreshing sporting experience. The Tennis IG traveled to Bangkok, Thailand; Basketball IG to Shandong, China; Volleyball IG to Johor, Malacca in Malaysia; Soccer IG to Sabah, Malaysia; Badminton, Netball, Biking and Dragonboat IG to Johor for the Danga Bay International Games 2006; Floorball IG to Melbourne for the Australia Floorball Open, and the Dragonboat and Canoeing IG to Penang, Malaysia

Having established a platform for sports excellence, RP also recognised the need to engage other Republicans in the vibrant sporting scene. The Sports Club took the lead in organising a series of events such as the Sports Camp, Bowling Challenge, Soccer “The Cage” Competition, Night Cycling and Paintball Competition (Operation Shootout). In another sporting event at RP, the Ultimate Team Republic Challenge 2006 drew 300 students together in an enthralling run around the brand new sports complex to try their hand at the various sports that RP had on offer.

The sports complex was fully optimised, serving not only the needs of the students, but also the community. Having played host to POL-ITE Netball and Basketball Championship, as well as the IVP Swimming Championship, the sports complex also saw youth outreach programmes, including the BIG 15 Basketball Championship 2006 and RP 7’s Foosies North and West Championship 2007. The Sports Hall was also graced by the National Disability Badminton League, the 3rd National Inter-Grasio Pencak Silat Championship 2006 and the news-breaking 2nd World Kuoshu / All Styles Championship Tournament.
