An afternoon of drama by RPICG at Arangam’09
On 6th March 2009, our group of students from the RP Indian Cultural Group (RPICG) took part in Arangam’09 – an Inter Tertiary Tamil Drama Competition organized by Ravindran Drama Group (RDG). RDG is a non-profit theatre company that is dedicated to develop and produce socially relevant plays that reflect the contemporary Singaporean vernacular.
Arangam has always been an ideal platform for RPICG to showcase their acting/drama skills and prove what they can offer to the audiences. Based on the theme “Singapore Tamil Writers”, RPICG adapted a script titled “Pattinattu Pattikkaatan” written by Puthumai Pittan. Ten RPICG members who were involved in this production as cast members, stage managers and production crew, underwent numerous hours of training and rehearsals as it was their debut performance.
This year, RP was the only tertiary institution that took part in the competition and competed alongside with participants from various local Junior Colleges. Though they did not qualify for the finals, the IG developed closer bonds among the members. The invaluable experience and insights from the competition have certainly boosted their confidence and would enable them to strive better in future competitions.

The RPICG members would like to thank all who were present to give them moral support and not forgetting the advisors, Mr. Lavanath and Ms. Seeneth for their continuous advice and support. The group hopes to do better next year and bring glory to RP!
