RP Bowling Team won in The 5th Collegiate League 2009

The Collegiate League was once held again, running for the 5th year this year, from 27th August to 29th October. It was held at different venues each week, consisting of Orchid Bowl in Orchid Country Club, SAFRA Yishun, SAFRA Tampines and The Chevrons. The aim of this competition was to enhance the level of competitiveness amongst bowlers in colleges and foster closer bond amongst the bowling fraternity.

This year, one team was sent to represent Republic Polytechnic (RP). After 10 weeks of intense league action, Team Republic came in the 7th position out of 15 with 2 boys and 4 girls making into the Masters event. They are Jack Leong, Aaron Wan, Clara Lim, Nur Syazwani, Eileen Lim and Samantha Tay.

The Masters, which is the final event, was held on the 5th of November at The Chevrons. It consisted a total of 8 games; 4 blocks of 2 games.

After facing strong competition in the Masters event from competitors of local universities and polytechnics, Team Republic managed to bring back a medal from the effort of Clara Lim, finishing 3rd in the girls division with a total pinfall of 1478. Next, clinching the 8th position, we have Nur Syazwani who bowled a total number of 1413 pinfalls and Samantha Tay, in the 10th position, with a total pinfall of 1322.

The boys division had a close fight till the end. Despite facing tough competition from the University Students, our team Captain, Aaron Wan, clinched the 4th position with a total pinfall of 1579, losing out to the 3rd position by only a single pin. Not too far behind, fellow team mate Jack Leong, clinched the 6th position with a total pinfall of 1569, losing the 5th position merely by 9 pins.

Overall, our bowlers did well and gained valuable experience from this competition. With this experience, the team will be able to learn from their mistakes and strive for greater success in the upcoming tournaments.

Men: Aaron Wan Yu Xiang (4th Position), Jack Leong(6th Position)
