Youthépreneur National Pushcart Challenge

Republic Polytechnic will be organising a Youthépreneur Pushcart Challenge on 11 November 2007 at the National Library Board, Events Plaza, 100 Victoria Street.

Held in-conjunction with Global Entreprepolis Singapore (event organised by the Economic Development Board and Singapore Business Federation), this nationwide competition seeks to showcase Singapore’s very own budding entrepreneurial talents. Participating schools in this competition includes St Andrews School, Hwa Chong Institution, Paya Lebar Methodist Girls’ School etc.

All selected teams will attend an Entrepreneurship Education training where key business management basics such as idea generation, marketing, sales, accounting and operations will be taught to students. The students will be judged based on different criteria such as creativity, business idea feasibility, visual display and performance

Besides being able to witness the competitive entrepreneurial spirit among the secondary schools, a host of other activities is also being planned for the day. This includes entrepreneurial talks by local youth entrepreneurs such as Darius Cheng (CEO, Tencube) as well as student performances from various interest groups. The key highlight would be the crowning of very 1st Youthépreneur National Pushcart Challenge Champion. Program outline are as follows:

The Guest of Honor for this event is Mr Douglas Foo, Founder and CEO of Apex-Pal International Ltd. Other invitees for this event includes industry partners as well as the teachers and principals of schools involved in the competition.

Rules of the Youthépreneur National Pushcart Challenge

1.        The competition is open to all secondary school students. Each school can between 1 – 2 team(s) and each team should consist of no more than 6 members.

2.         The pushcart competition shall start at 10 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m. on 11 November 2007.

3.        The last sale will be at 4 p.m. and teams are to submit their sales figures and profit amount to the officer-in-charge by 4.15 pm. Failure to submit these figures and/or manipulation of the figures may result in disqualification of the team. 

4.        All sales must be properly recorded in a serially numbered receipt book or computer program.  The profit in this case is determined by the difference between the selling and the cost price for each product. In the case of self-made products, all participating teams are to submit the estimated cost price of their products to the officer-in-charge prior to the competition.

5.         The teams will be competing for the following awards

- Champion - $5,000

- First Runner Up - $2,000

- Second Runner Up - $1,000

- Most Creative Business Idea - $500

- Most Promising Business Idea - $500

- Most Patronized Stall - $500

- Best Visual Display Stall - $500

6.        All participants are required to attend a mandatory half day workshop at $50 per participant. The workshop will be held on 24 Oct 2007 from 2-6 pm at the Republic Polytechnic.
