Young Aspirers Club Pushcart Competition 2008

The inaugural Young Aspirers Pushcart Competition added some buzz to RP and the student body with its “Christmas Comes Early” event from 25th to 28th November, which kicked off the Christmas shopping season.

The objective of the competition was to provide a platform for IGs from the Young Aspirers Club to work together on an activity and the nature of the event enabled IG members to meet one another in competition on friendly terms.  With no restrictions on the ideas that IGs could showcase, the Social Enterprise IG invited a young entrepreneur – a magician – to show off his magic tricks and the new FUZE IG touched the hearts of facilitators and students by giving them an opportunity to deliver messages and thanks on cards attached to apples.

Prior to the event, students were given tips on the basics of starting and running a small business through workshops conducted by our Academic Staff.

150 students competed for the following prizes in 19 pushcarts:

  • Champion, 1st and 2nd runner ups

  • Best visual display

  • Most patronised store

  • Best sales presenter

The young entrepreneurs made $9,911.50 in revenue over 3 days during the lunch hour, attracting crowds of over 1,000 students and staff.
