CIE Learns About Financial Investment Practices the Fun Way!

CIE holds a departmental staff meeting each month to discuss academic matters. For the last CIE staff meeting held on June 7th, CIE did things a little differently.

In light of the school vacations, CIE took a break from planning lessons and took time learn more about financial management through a refreshing and insightful financial game, conducted by external consultancy firm, The Maximas Group.

A simulation of the real financial market, the game got staff to role-play as amateur investors aiming growing their wealth.

Different booths were set up that allowed staff to

-      Queue up to collect “salary”

-      Observe property prices

-      Invest in shares, bonds and property,

Staff may also choose to go into “partnership ventures”. Some of the lessons learn were:

-      Selling their investments during the bull period, they will be able to earn a return and maximise their capital.

-      Rushing into investments may cause a decrement in prices.

CIE’s Finance Resource Services (FRS) Portfolio helped to put this activity together. Juliet Kang, Head of FRS, explained the aim of the activity.

“Through this three-hour activity, staff got to explore the financial and investment practices in a fun way,” she said. “In addition, this event also doubled as a cohesion activity which gives staff a chance to interact despite their busy calendar. They also understand one another better in terms of their investment preference.”

The activity ended with a sharing session where they discussed their investment techniques and things to look out for in real life situation.
