Diploma in Renewable Energy Engineering (R41)

Graduation Criteria

To graduate with a Diploma in Renewable Energy Engineering, you must satisfy the modular criteria set by the School of Engineering. Most students should be able to do this within 3 years of enrolment if they are deemed to have successfully complete on average five modules equivalent of 20 modular credits (MC), or its equivalent, per semester.

How the Modular Structure Works
Modules at the Republic Polytechnic fall into a few broad categories, as can be seen from course structure. They consist of general modules, discipline modules, specialisation modules, elective modules and freely chosen modules. To satisfy the requirements of the Diploma programme, you must choose a specified number of modules from selected categories. These are summarised in the following table:

Table 3: Modular Requirements for Graduation in the DREE

Module Category Number of modular credits required for graduation
General 28
Discipline 36
Specialisation 24
Elective 4
Freely Chosen 4
Industry Orientation Programme 24
Total 120
Modules

There are General, Discipline-specific and Specialisation-specific modules. General modules aim to help you prepare the ground for generic skills such as cognitive, linguistic and entrepreneurial skills, as well as equip you with the foundational knowledge of culture, technical communication and methods of personal development.

Discipline-specific modules focus on developing your knowledge of Renewable Energy Engineering while Specialisation-specific modules are designed to deepen your understanding of the area which you have chosen to pursue.

Elective Module

You also need to take one elective module (4 MC). Elective modules are designed to broaden your understanding of Renewable Energy Engineering and serve to complement your knowledge acquired from other parts of the programme.

Freely Chosen Module

Lastly, one (4 MC) of the thirty modules can be freely chosen from a list of modules offered at the Republic Polytechnic.
