Diploma in Supply Chain Management (R21)

About the Programme

To meet the growing importance of Singapore being the region's logistics hub and supply chain nerve centre, the Diploma in Supply Chain Supply Management (DSCM) serves to equip you with in-depth understanding and broad-based knowledge on logistics and supply chain management. This, coupled with specialised electives based on your interests, will help hone your skills and enhance your position in the logistics industry.

DSCM also provides you with the necessary skills and practical knowledge in the areas of cold chain management, pharmaceutical and bio-chemical supply chain and retail logistics. The programme will focus on the integrated supply chain which has become increasingly important today.

Programme Objectives

The DSCM aims to nurture knowledgeable and enterprising young professionals who can apply their skills to the demands of industry. By the end of the course, you will be adept in the art of problem solving and will be effective learners in the ever-evolving arena of the logistics and supply chain management industries.

The programme will provide a well-rounded education comprising both technical capabilities and general know-how. Discipline and specialisation-specific modules will equip you with a solid understanding of engineering and business process flow, operations research, optimisation and inventory management. The programme will also give you a strong grasp of logistics planning and control, facilities planning and design, warehousing and storage, IT for supply chain management and procurement and supplier development. General modules will help you prepare the ground for innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship, as well as train you in communication and lifelong learning skills.

State-of-the-art Facilities and Laboratories
DSCM students get to enjoy the modern facilities and equipment in the Integrated Supply Chain Lab (i-SAIL) and the RP-NEC RFID Competency Lab for their curriculum and project work. A full suite of supply chain related software is also covered in the course, including SAP Enterprise Resource Planning, Boon Software's Warehouse Management System (WMS), Minitab for Statistics, Flexim for simulation, Tradenet® for trade declaration, AutoCAD for layout drawing, as well as software for route planning, network optimisation and many others.
Professional Certifications
DSCM students can opt to pursue professional certifications after completing certain modules in the course. For example, on completion of E355-Cold Chain Management, students can take up the Cold Chain Officer Certification, jointly awarded by GS1 Singapore, Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) and RP. Students who completed E356-Pharmaceutical and Bio-Chem Supply Chain can also look forward to the Dangerous Goods (DG) Regulations certification by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). DSCM students who completed the whole diploma curriculum can also opt to take the certification offered by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, Singapore. This certification will lead to exemptions if they eventually wish to pursue the Certified Professional Logistician qualification.

Graduates from DSCM may also pursue internationally-recognised professional certification programmes after completing their diploma programme.

Industry Immersion Programme (IIP) and Final Year Project (FYP)

DSCM students will go through a 16 weeks internship programme, either locally or in overseas countries like China, Malaysia, etc. during their course at RP. They will work in world class Logistics and Supply Chain Management companies like CEVA Logistics, Damco Logistics, DHL, DB Schenker, Kuehne + Nagel, Logwin, Menlo Worldwide Logistics, OOCL, Ryder-Ascent, SDV Logistics, Toll Global Logistics, Yusen Logistics, CWT, Keppel Logistics, ST Logistics, YCH, and many others. This gives them an avenue to interact with professionals and acquaint themselves with possible future roles in the company.

DSCM students will also have a chance to work on an industry Final Year Project during the final year of study. They will interact with practitioners and work on industry-related projects with outcomes that can be applied to the real world. They will also have a chance to participate in projects undertaken by the Centre of Innovation (COI) in Supply Chain Management, a national centre funded by SPRING Singapore and EDB to support the growth of companies in the logistics sector. More information on our engagement with the industry can be found here.

Student Overseas Study Trips

To prepare students for the global economy, the DSCM organises about 4 students overseas study trips every year to countries like Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, etc. During such trips, DSCM students will get to visit overseas logistics operations, air and sea ports, as well as renowned universities. Such study trips broaden their perspectives and prepare them for the global functions required in the supply chain industry.

Career Prospects

Graduates from the DSCM can contribute to the planning, implementing and management of the integrated supply chain functions ranging from purchasing to inventory management to transportation and warehousing. A diverse range of job opportunities are available for DSCM graduates, contributing to any of the parties along the whole supply chain such as suppliers, manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers, retailers and logistics service providers, etc. Examples of possible jobs are listed here.

Further Studies
Graduates may also choose to pursue further education. The DSCM curriculum is designed to meet the requirements for advanced standing in local and overseas Institutions of Higher Learning (IHLs). Module exemptions are given in relevant courses at the National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and the Singapore Management University (SMU). Graduates can also choose to pursue the part-time degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management at SIM University.
