Introduction : About the Programme

As Information and Communications Technology (ICT) continues to power Singapore’s economic growth and remains a sector of growth and a key enabler to other sectors of the economy, an ICT workforce with solid technical expertise, a keen understanding or acumen for business and creativity with life-long learning skills will form a critical foundation for Singapore in capturing and driving global opportunities in the ICT space.

ICT will become more and more integral to our lives as it transforms further the way we live, work and play as well as boost the way companies and industries conduct their businesses today and in the future.  Inevitably, ICT professionals need to have in-depth business functions knowledge so that they speak the language of the business.

Programme Objectives

The Diploma in Business Information Systems (DBIS) is an Information Systems programme that integrates computing and business topics. It is designed to equip students with both technical and business skills that will enable them to use information technology (IT) to support business activities within the enterprise.

Students will learn the fundamentals of software application development and core IT technologies. From the business perspective, students will acquire skills in key business functions such as marketing and finance.

Career Prospects

The DBIS prepares graduates for careers in Management Information Systems, IS Management, business roles in the IT Industry, and IS-related roles in business. Graduates of DBIS who have a strong interest in creating new IT solutions will be equipped with the necessary technical skills to take up positions such as application and web developers, IT consultants and software engineers.

Further Education

All School of Information & Communications Technology (SIT) diploma programmes are designed to meet the requirements for entry with advanced standing in local and overseas universities for relevant degree programmes. Graduates will be well-positioned to pursue further education in fields such as information systems, business computing, business and software engineering.
