Diploma in Business Applications (R18)

About the Programme
The Diploma in Business Applications combines core Information Technology (IT) fundamentals with extensive hands-on access to the latest business software, such as the SAP ERP, SunGard banking and HIS hotel information system.

Students will be trained in software development in areas such as manufacturing & logistics, banking, hospitality & retail and healthcare. They can also choose to enhance their IT skills in networking, security and the wireless arena. In addition, students will be equipped with knowledge in business functions, such as marketing, accounting and management information systems.

Programme Objectives

  • Equip students with a firm foundation in core Information and Communications Technology (ICT) skills
  • Develop students’ understanding of how businesses use application software to run their organisations
  • Exposure to world-class enterprise application systems to gain knowledge of how IT is used to run business in the business domain
  • Train students in software application development
  • Provide opportunities to learn important business skills to complement IT understanding
The business domains presently offered within the programme are:
  1. Manufacturing and Logistics Systems
  2. Financial and Banking Applications
  3. Healthcare Applications
  4. Hospitality and Retail Systems

Career Prospects

Through exposure to application software in the different business domains, graduates will have the advantages of familiarity with business applications and an understanding of the processes in the area of their choice.

Graduates may be sought after as a consultant, software application developer and business development executive in an IT consultancy or software vendor. They may also be offered positions such as a business analyst, user support officer, and operations executive in organisations such as hospitals, manufacturing companies, banks, and hospitality and retail chains.

Further Studies

Graduates may choose to pursue further education and to this end, all School of Information and Communications Technology (SIT) diploma programmes are designed to meet the requirements for entry with advanced standing in local and overseas universities for relevant degree programmes. Advanced Pathway to Monash University

Republic Polytechnic collaborates with Monash University's Faculty of Information Technology to offer graduates an accelerated pathway to the Bachelor of Information Technology and Systems in Monash University, Australia.

This advanced pathway allows students to be awarded up to maximum of 96 credit points (16 units) when they apply for admission to the Bachelor of Information Technology and Systems program at the Australia and Malaysia campuses of Monash University. They may potentially progress to the third year of study in Monash University.

The students must fulfil the following criteria to qualify for this advanced articulation:

  • Achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and above
  • Completed 3 additional modules as prescribed by Monash University, at the time of application.
