About the Programme
This unique programme combines core IT fundamentals with extensive hands-on access to world-class business software, such as the SAP ERP, SunGard banking and HIS hotel information system.
Students will be trained in software development and learn about the use of software in areas such as manufacturing, logistics, banking, hospitality, retail and healthcare. They can also choose to enhance their IT skills in networking, security and the wireless arena, as well as their knowledge in business functions, such as Marketing, Accounting and Management Information Systems.
The Diploma in Business Applications (DBA) programme will give students a firm foundation in core ICT skills as well as develop students’ understanding of how businesses use application software to run their organisations and to create a competitive advantage.
To give you a head start in your career and on further education, you will be exposed to world-class enterprise application systems to gain knowledge of how IT is used to run business in your business domain. You will be trained in software application development and will be given opportunities to learn important business skills to complement your IT understanding.
The business domains presently offered within DBA are:
- Manufacturing and Logistics Systems
- Financial and Banking Applications
- Healthcare Applications
- Hospitality and Retail Systems
Through exposure to application software in the different business domains, graduates will have the advantages of familiarity with business applications and an understanding of the processes in the area of their choice.
There are excellent prospects as a junior consultant, IT sales support consultant, software application developer and business development executive in an IT consultancy or software vendor. A holder of this diploma will also be sought after as a business analyst, user support officer, and operations executive in organisations such as hospitals, manufacturing companies, banks, and hospitality and retail chains.
Graduates may choose to pursue further education and to this end, all SIT diploma programmes are designed to meet the requirements for entry with advanced standing in local and overseas universities for relevant degree programmes. The Diploma in Business Applications programme is designed to meet the requirements for advanced standing in local and overseas Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) in courses related to IT, Information Systems and Computer Engineering.
Monash University’s Faculty of Information Technology and Republic Polytechnic’s School of Information and Communications Technology (SIT) have collaborated to offer DBA graduates an accelerated pathway to
the Bachelor of IT and Systems (BITS) Monash University.
