Diploma in Information Technology
Introduction: About the Programme
The Diploma in Information Technology (DIT) will prepare students with a solid foundation in IT skills through Republic Polytechnic’s innovative problem-based approach. Students will learn the fundamentals of software application development in their core modules, with extensive choices for specialisation in IT security, networking and wireless technologies.
The diploma will offer students a holistic education that mirrors the needs of the working world. This invaluable experience is made especially relevant with the industry collaborations that the Republic has established. Most importantly, the programme imparts key lifelong learning skills as a fundamental component of every module, skills essential as we face a rapidly-changing world.

4 specializations under this programme. They are:

- Wireless Computing

1. Multimedia Computing Specialization
(except AY07/08 cohort onwards)
Multimedia has been a hotbed
for the IT industry and the demand for multimedia
technologists and specialists will continue to
be strong. This specialization will provide you
with the necessary knowledge and skills for multimedia
design and creation in the various forms and media,
as well as for multimedia production. It will also
offer exposure and opportunities in the field of
digital entertainment.
2. Networking & Security
Specialization
The proliferation of computers
today is supported by network constructing technology,
the most important of which is the Internet. This
may be seen in the strong demand for network and
security professionals who are able to establish,
manage and protect a companys network. This
specialization will provide you with the necessary
knowledge for administering network services and
the security management skills involved in managing
heterogeneous network environments.
3. Wireless Computing Specialization
The emergence and adoption of
wireless technologies illustrate the pervasive
adoption of ICT even as it transforms the way we
live, work and play now and in the future. This
specialization track offers modules that will equip
you with the skills and knowledge for what is now
and will be a key enabling technology, from developing
wireless applications to understanding and applying
key wireless technologies.
4. IT Security Specialization
As the Internet has matured,
enterprises are increasingly dependent on the availability
of critical business data for business survivability.
The importance of information security has risen
greatly and there is a strong demand for trained
IT Security professionals to protect companies'
information assets. This specialization track will
introduce you to the technical, practical and legal
aspects of IT Security. You will be equipped with
skills and knowledge using well accepted security
frameworks, best of breed practices and procedures
for assessing, managing and implementing security
measures in corporations.
Graduates from this programme can look forward to exciting careers in many areas of the IT industry. Graduates are sought after in positions such as software developers, IT specialists, IT systems executives or as IT consultants. Depending on the area of specialisation, the DIT graduate will also be equipped to assume roles such as network engineers and administrators, wireless engineers and application developers or as IT security professionals.
