Specialist Diploma in Sports and Exercise Sciences

About the Programme

The Specialist Diploma in Sports and Exercise Sciences (SD-SES) programme prepares individuals with the relevant skills and knowledge to support the growing needs of the sports and fitness industry. This programme will provide graduates with specialised knowledge in exercise and sports performance enhancement.

The SD-SES programme is a part-time evening course, comprising 8 academic modules, each spanning a total of 30 hours (10 lessons of 3 hours each). Lessons are workshop-based and assessment is done through a variety of modalities such as group discussions, participation, presentations, quizzes, case studies, assignments and practical work. These modules are facilitated by practising professionals and experienced academics. Participants will be required to complete all modules within 2 years. To graduate with this specialist diploma, course participants must obtain a minimum attendance of 80% and a minimum of C grade for all modules.

Additionally, participants will have to fulfil an industry practicum module which offers them an opportunity to gain hands-on practical experience in a sports science environment. All SD-SES participants will be supervised by an academic staff from the School of Sports, Health and Leisure for this practicum. The duration of the practicum is 10 weeks.

Upon completion of the programme, graduates will have specialised knowledge in sports science practices that meets the demand in both the public and private sectors such as: Singapore Sports Council, National Sports Associations, golf and country clubs/resorts, sports and recreation clubs, fitness service providers, sports vendors, equipment suppliers, schools and institutions and sports service providers.
