Specialist Diploma in Sports and Leisure Management

About the Programme

The Specialist Diploma in Sports and Leisure Management (SD-SLM) programme provides individuals with an opportunity to gain the necessary skills and relevant background knowledge to prepare them for a career in the Sports and Leisure industry. Individuals will enhance their knowledge of innovative and current industry practices, as well as raise their professionalism to higher standards.

The SD-SLM programme is a part-time evening course, comprising 8 academic modules, each spanning a total of 30 hours (10 lessons of 3 hours each). Lessons are workshop-based and assessment is done through a variety of modalities such as group discussions, participation, presentations, quizzes, case studies, assignments and practical work. These modules are facilitated by practising professionals and experienced academics. Participants will be required to complete all modules within 2 years. To graduate with this specialist diploma, course participants must obtain a minimum attendance of 80% and a minimum of C grade for all modules.

Additionally, participants will have to fulfil an industry practicum module which offers them an opportunity to gain hands-on practical experience in a sports and leisure management setting. The intention is to enable participants to tackle real issues and problems faced frequently by Sports and Leisure organisations, and to provide a solution for the particular issue of interest. All SD-SLM participants will be supervised by an academic staff from the School of Sports, Health and Leisure for their practicum. The duration of the practicum is 10 weeks.

Upon completion of the programme, graduates will have specialised knowledge in sports and leisure management practices that meets the demand in both the public and private sectors such as: Singapore Sports Council, National Sports Associations, golf and country clubs/resorts, sports and recreation clubs, schools and institutions and sports service providers.
