Diploma in Game Design (R35)
Have you ever wondered why some types of games and toys are more fun and captivating than others? How games and toys have evolved and what will they become? The Diploma in Game Design will challenge you to find your own answers to these questions, whilst building your creative and technical design skills in bringing such experiences from idea to life.
Programme Objectives
Students will be immersed in a collaborative inter-disciplinary environment, and build on emerging opportunities in the global entertainment and transmedia arena.
Students will learn how to appreciate and understand concepts relevant to gameplay and game design. They will be introduced to the use of technology in specialised arts, and become competent in technology and methodologies relevant to game and toy creation.
Course ContentYear 1
Covers broad-based foundation modules of Creative Concepts, Digital Media Arts, Cognitive Process and Problem Solving, Introduction to Communication Practice, Introduction to Programming, Enterprise Skills, Entrepreneurship, Sciences, and Mathematics.
Year 2
Covers core-disciplinary modules of History of the Arts, and Arts Criticism & Analysis alongside multi-disciplinary specialisation modules: Art of Story, Anthropological Studies, Character Design, Expression of Form, Interaction Design and Analog Game Theory.
Year 3
Covers remaining multi-disciplinary specialisation modules: Game Design Workshop, Sound Design, Simulation & Modelling, Smart Architecture.
Practice-based Work
Students will be provided the opportunity to gain practical experience in building a portfolio of team- and individual-based project work through final year projects, attachments and course work.
