SAMANTHA ASHWINI SINGHAM

Diploma in Sports & Exercise Sciences , Year 1

School of Sports, Health and Leisure

St. Margaret's Secondary School Alumna
I applied to study Sports & Exercise Sciences, under the School of Sports, Health and Leisure, through the Republic Polytechnic's (RP) Direct Poly Admission (DPA) route to help secure a place. Initially, I was apprehensive about attending the Polytechnic Preparatory Programme (PPP). It meant I would start poly earlier and based on the programme structure, I did not understand how communications, etiquette, presentation skills and acting were relevant to my course of study. Having experienced the programme, it has been an enlightening short journey and I have no regrets.

The 8-week PPP provided a transition from my secondary school to poly life. It offered an insight into RP's culture, its many facilities and the teaching methodology of RP. RP is unique in its problem-based learning (PBL) approach which takes some getting used to. The PPP provides an eye-opener on how lessons will be conducted and assessed. As my PPP class consisted of students from various faculties, we shared very different experiences and perspectives on issues – this was both interesting and beneficial.

The PPP has given me a head start as I have become familiar with the rigours of presentations, independent research and writing. Being able to cope with the workload allows me to make more friends and engage in sports. I am enjoying my poly life!

Benefit from the PPP. Join RP through the DPA route. You won't regret it!

I chose Republic Polytechnic's Direct Poly Admission (DPA) because I wanted to ensure that I will have a secured placement in the course that I wanted, which is Diploma in Material Science under the School of Applied Science.
JESSICA KIM TENDI

Diploma in Materials Science, Year 3

School of Applied Science

Paya Lebar Methodist Girl’s School Alumna
At that point of time, there were only 2 polytechnics offering the course and RP was the leading polytechnic. I thought that choosing RP would give me a better advantage over the other polytechnic.

The Polytechnic Preparatory Programme (PPP) gave me a chance to make new friends and to experience RP and its unique PBL system way before any other students did. In the 1 to 2 months that we took part in the PPP, our confidence was built to speak out loud and overcome our fears. This skill is really helpful when we have to present in front of the class after a gruelling day of tackling the daily problems assigned.

Know what you want? Why not secure it now through DPA!

SITI RAHAYU BTE ISA

Diploma in Integrated Events Management, Year 1

School of Hospitality

Zhenghua Secondary School Alumna
The main reason why I chose Republic Polytechnic's (RP) Direct Poly Admission (DPA) was because of the fact that it ensured me a secured placement for the course I wanted to be in, which is the Diploma in Integrated Events Management (DIEM) under RP's School of Hospitality. My sister graduated from the same course recently. This made me even more eager to take up DIEM as my choice of diploma course in RP as I understand and appreciate what the course is about, what opportunities it has to offer and the wide choice of careers it afforded me.

The Polytechnic Preparatory Programme (PPP) programme introduced me to the learning system in RP which is new and refreshing to me, and very different from what I experienced previously in secondary school. Thanks to the PPP programme, I got a head start to what life in RP was going to be like, enabling me to adapt to the creative and engaging PBL learning system. I now feel more confident and comfortable in solving daily problems assigned and later presenting it to the class. The PPP really served its purpose well!

Join DPA for a head start in RP!

Fear. Fear prompted me to enrol through Republic Polytechnic's (RP) Direct Poly Admission (DPA). I feared the worse for my ‘O' level grades and was therefore fearful that I may not be accepted into the course of my choice in RP.

EZEKIEL HOE JIA HAO

Diploma in Aerospace Avionics, Year 3

School of Engineering

Admiralty Secondary School Alumnus
The stories of people scoring regrettable grades and the common mentality of how gruelling ‘O' levels can be unnerved me. Fortunately, I did well for the ‘O' levels.

Fear was not the only reason why I chose my course in Aerospace Avionics under RP's School of Engineering however. Aerospace is Singapore's future!

In RP you get to do what university undergraduates do every day - you get the opportunity to think, think and think.

RP's the perfect place to get started on your journey to your degree!

MAO ZONGCHENG

Diploma in Technology & Arts Management, Year 2

School of Technology for the Arts

Peirce Secondary School Alumnus
The reason for my choice of Republic Polytechnic's (RP) Direct Poly Admission (DPA) exercise was because RP was one of the few institutions in Singapore which offered the course of my choice - Diploma in Technology and Arts Management (DTA). This diploma, under School of Technology for the Arts has always been a dream course because it offers me an education in both the technical and management aspects of the arts industry. Thus, RP's DPA exercise gave me a chance to secure a spot in this very exclusive Diploma offered by RP.

Going through the RP Polytechnic Preparatory Programme (PPP) allowed me to experience many different student life activities that happen in RP both during and after curriculum time. The two-month long programme exposed me to a variety of projects that engage students and also prepared me for the three years that I would be spending in RP. This programme has not only prepared me for lessons in RP, the activities has also definitely made me more knowledgeable and equipped as an individual.

Join the RP DPA program to secure your ticket to an enriching and well-rounded Polytechnic education!

MOHAMED FARUQ B MOHAMED RASID

Diploma in Information Technology, Graduate 2011

School of Information and Communications Technology

Lee Kuan Yew Award for Mathematics and Science 2011

Marsiling Secondary School Alumnus
I chose the Republic Polytechnic's (RP) Direct Poly Admission (DPA) because I was really interested in RP's Problem-Based Learning (PBL) experience and hence had made up my mind to go RP even before getting my O Level results.

Honestly, I found the Polytechnic Preparatory Programme (PPP) to be lots of fun! Well, truth be told, the PPP is not anything like your normal classes and hence it feels different once you commence school proper. However, my recommendation for prospective RP students is that, if you definitely want to join RP, join us through the DPA pathway. You would not regret the fun and educational experiences gained!

The daily 9am-4pm routine at RP is really challenging. Nonetheless, the experience in RP is one of a kind and I see it as a wonderful adventure.

RP's DPA is a wonderful and engaging experience for all post-secondary students, so come on and join in, you won't regret it! I promise!
