RP's 1st Career Fair on 16th Feb'06
The Career Fair @ RP was held on 16 Feb 06 at RP's Tanglin Campus. The aim of the fair is two-fold:
-
To introduce participating companies to our students by allowing them to offer
relevant employment opportunities
- To enable our students to come closer to the companies and allow them to use the opportunity to ask questions and address their career concerns.
The career fair had a total of 16 participating companies that collectively offered 284 jobs to final year students. Additionally part-time jobs were offered to aspiring Year 1, Year 2 students and Year 3 male students awaiting National Service call-up upon graduation. Our students were equally quick to seize the opportunity and have signed up with the companies. Over 800 job applications and referrals (most students applied with more than one company to increase their chances of employment) were made during the day itself.
Consequently the participating companies were quick to capitalize on this windfall of student applications and decided to conduct interviews for selected students at our meeting rooms throughout the day. The participating companies were happy with the student turnout and the arrangements made for them, and expressed interest in participating in future career fairs. Our Office of Industry and Career Services (OIC) will continue to work with students, staff and companies to advance the career prospects of our graduating cohort.
On a related note, our RP Career Coaches, thoughtful facilitators and OIC staff have been encouraging both students and companies to actively participate in the Student Career portal. To date, the Student Career Portal has over 680 job offers with 128 companies that have signed up. Similarly, we have over 900 active RP students who have registered themselves at the portal and are using the career services available on the portal. RP will continue to reach out to all students, encourage greater participation and make the job searching experience a worthwhile effort.
