Wireless Surfing in RP and other IHLs with EduWin

Republic Polytechnic is proud to be part of the new Education Wireless Integrated Network (EDUWIN), an initiative by Institutes of Higher Learning (IHL) to link up their wireless hotspots.

This project allows students from one Institute to be able to connect to the internet even when they are on another Institute's campus. You can find out more about the initiative at this website http://eduwin.nus.edu.sg

Important Information for setting up your notebook when visiting RP

SSID - rpnet (not RPNET or RPnet)

Hotspots within Republic Polytechnic - Click here to launch a fully sized map. Do note that all indoor areas in main buildings are covered by the network.

For RP Students - How to configure your notebooks for access to other IHL’s VPN

1) When you are at the institution, associate your laptop to an access point. To find out which IHLs are ready for EduWin, click here.

2) Establishment of the VPN connection back to Republic Polytechnic

2.1) Configuration of your wireless adapter and basic trouble shooting

Depending on the type of wireless client you are using, you need to setup a profile on your laptop, before setting out

Please refer to http://eduwin.nus.edu.sg for more information on the SSID used within each institution

Please remember the SSID and also note the exact spelling of the SSID as it is CASE-Sensitive. The next step will be to open your Wireless Client utility, depending on your card and the software installed. It can be one of the following

Cisco Card – Launch the program Aironet Configuration utility to add a new profile

SMC / Others - Please refer to wireless card documentation on manufacturer’s website / instruction manual that came with the card on how to configure the utility. ( it may be using the integrated windows XP zero config utility)

3) Setting up of VPN account (for those that haven’t already done it! )

Go to www.myrp.edu.sg

Click on IT Helpdesk , then on VPN information

Download the related files there.
