Staff and
Students of the Republic were treated to an 'E.P.I.C'
new year by local freeform band E.P.I.C. As part
of Music.Republic's local artiste programme (that
plans to bring in a local band/musical act every
month for 2004), E.P.I.C kick-started the new year
with their brand of heartwarming acoustic ballads
and freeform rock. The 5-man band got together for
the first time in 7 months for their very first show
for 2004.
A sizeable number of staff and students
gathered for the hour long show by one of Singapore's
most versatile
bands. The theme of the show was Love, Loss and
Life. Samplers of the group's work were given away
throughout
the performance to the delight of many students.
Comprising our very own staff members Varian Lim
on keyboards
and Bob Tan on drums, E.P.I.C filled the soundscapes
of the library with a little journey through the
trials and tribulations of growing up...Completing
the lineup
were Wesley Choo on Bass and vocals, Bernie Chia
on Lead Guitar, and Ronald Lee on Rhythm Guitar and
vocals.
Songs such as 'What I have to say' reflected
on the 9/11 events, whilst ballads such as 'Let
it Slide' talked about how things can be outside
of one's control. A band that prides itself on
immortalizing special moments in life, E.P.I.C
also performed instrumental tracks such as Suggestions,
a new work specially written for this event,
and Wanted Star, a majestic guitar anthem written
by lead guitarist Bernie Chia. The set was ended
with a piece entitled Caricature of Life, a hybrid
piece of Jazz, funk and rock which described
the state of youths today. An encore piece, a
classic rock number Jekyl and Hyde with lyrics
commenting on schizophrenia was also specially
prepared to thank the audience for their lovely
support.
E.P.I.C and Music.Republic thanks all who turned
up to support the event!
