with RP Students

Mr. Don
Wong, executive director of The HighPoint Halfway
House visited RP on a bright Saturday morning on
August 28 to share with some 50 students from RP’s
Poly Forum social entrepreneurship and economic opportunities
teams about his experience as one of Singapore’s
pioneering social entrepreneur.

The students listened in rapt attention as Wong
shared candidly from his heart about the struggles
he faced in the early years of his life, how he
turned from drugs and gangsterism, and eventually
found The HighPoint Halfway House. Wong’s
pioneering work as a social entrepreneur is in
using business-oriented methods to drive social
change, turning HighPoint into a successful, professional
moving company that helps former drug abusers and
gangsters find focus in life, regain confidence,
and re-integrated into society in a meaningful
way.
Through Wong’s sharing, RP’s student
learned how an organization with a social mission
can go beyond relying on donations and charity
to generate income to fulfill its vision, and at
the same time become a conduit for change for the
socially and economically disadvantaged segment
of Singaporeans that it employs.
