On any given school day, the basketball courts at
the Republic are filled with enthusiastic students
strutting their stuff with gravity defying lay-ups,
no-look passes to breath-taking 3-pointers. Sensing
the Republic's vibrant basketball culture, the Sports
Club and Basketball Club, led by Mr. Benjamin Seow
decided to organize the Republic's inaugural 3 on
3 Basketball tournament.
Held on 30th August, a total of 12 teams battled
it out on the courts for the silverware, adopting
a qualifying stage followed by a knockout system.
As the tournament progressed, it was clear to all
that the tournament had become host to some of
the brightest young talent around. Teams displayed
no
lack of skill, determination and hard work to impress
all that were present. However, all that glitter
is not gold; game flow was interrupted by bad weather.
Teams were then told that competition would only
resume after school vacation.
The game was finally resumed on 10th September evening.
Semi Finalist Teams: Headache, aCe, Pioneer 4 and
Max Annexe were all potentially regarded as the champion
team to walkaway with the title. However, it was
Team aCe which top the list and emerged the winner
of RP’s first 3 on 3 Challenge. Headache was
edged out to claim the 1st runners up and Max Annexe
had to settle for the 2nd runners up.
It was an exciting evening, where teams openly displayed
their skills on the court and great sportsmanship
off the court. Callings for “I will be back” is
always mentioned and players looking forward to RP’s
next basketball event: The 3 Pointer Championship
Series.
