Music.Republic - Modern Musician Workshop
|
|
11 Dec 2003. The Republic was treated to a show
of how far music technology has come. The Modern
Musician workshop showcased the advent of an new
era of musicianship, the age of solitary musicians
creating sounds which previously needed an entire
repertoire of musicians. Mike Mayuni, a local veteran
of the music scene was specially invited down by
the Centre for Culture & Communication
to share with our staff and students some of the
tricks of the trade. Attracting a small bunch of
aspiring musicians, the audience was blown away by
the technological marvels of the latest synthesizer
to hit the scene, the Korg Triton Studio. Capable
of producing sounds so authentic and life-like, anyone
would have mistaken the sounds to have come from
real live musicians. Mike also shared with us the
sequencing abilities of the machine, and added in
a short performance of his own composition to finish
off the show.
All in all, it was a wonderful and enriching workshop.
The Centre for Culture & Communication looks
forward to holding more workshops and clinics in
the same vein to keep our students up to date with
music technology. A keen supporter of local musicians,
the Centre will continue to invite more and more
local musicians to express their art forms on the
grounds of the Republic. Students and Staff can look
forward to the next major event by Music.Republic,
a live gig by local freeform Rock Band E.P.I.C come
January 6th 2004.
