A day where men became boys; Where a team became a family | RP Family Day 2005

As per all RP events, there was plenty of food for everyone. The day at Orchid Country Club on 12th March 2005 started in similar fashion. Staff and family strolled in to collect their goodie bags and their lucky draw coupons. Little did they know that that very same lucky draw coupon was the same coupon which assigned them their “fate” of grouping for the rest of the day.

Eden started with his speech and though he claimed to be a serious speaker, the crowd seemed to think otherwise.

There was, of course as usual, people who did not listen to his “lecture” or were “bored”, perhaps that is the perfect reason why RP uses PBL instead.

True to our PBL way, we got down into our teams.

We had our first meeting, the cinnamon roll. Conducted by our “facilitators”

Afterwhich, there was the 1st breakout – everyone got a chance to eat their “po piah”. Some ate faster and we found out that the majority were really “messy eaters”.

After their food, they got down to the 2nd meeting. They cracked their brains and had some discussion and did a mini presentation. We found out then who were the engineers, and who were not…as well as why some of us are in the departments which we are in.

After the 2nd break-out (lunch) where everyone had a go at free ice-creams as well, then came the most important period. Showdown. A chance for you to take a swipe at the other team. Push them to a corner and make sure you are the best! There was a certain someone who was over-enthusiastic and obviously was very well-trained by the army. He went on a one-man tiger force, flanking round the whole carpark and had to be stopped by the marshals to tell him that that was out-of-bounds. Make a guess as to who that may be? (hint: His name starts with G and has a “O” as his middle name.)

Tere were cheers and there were tears (A Mr. Thaxxxxxx who got all the numbers around his lucky draw number but his called burst out crying).

This is one of the few occasions where you pick up a gun, find a different use for newspaper and realize that straws are not just meant for drinking. Most importantly, it is a day where you find that your team has also just become your family.

On behalf of Rec Club, we hope you and your family had as much fun as we had organizing this for you. We hope you had achieved our primary objective of knowing 5 new staff by the end of Family Day 2005. (If you had not done so, do not hesitate and start going to your next door cubicle and get to know 5 new staff now!). Till next year where the new Rec Club will organize something for you again, we thank you for coming and for reliving these memories with us again. We wish you a Happy RP Family Day 2005.
