The Republic celebrates The Year of the Monkey!

| The CNY
celebrations started out with the bang of drums of
cymbals. RP ushered in the New Year with a Lion Dance
performance
and excellent Chinese Orchestra Performances. It
was raining ba gua at the Plaza, as the Student Union
and the Service Learning Club and the
International Students IG distributed that and
other New Year goodies as well. The mood was joyous
and festive and both students and staff waited
in anticipation for their Lucky Draw numbers to
be
called out to get that lucky hamper. Doing
Create. Republic proud was the EMP team let by
Bob and Varian and the Chinese Orchestra led by
Madeleiene Lew.
One thing that brings to mind the
friendly family
atmosphere of RP, was the Dumpling making competition
where there was such an overwhelming response
that 2 rounds had to be held. Staff and Students,
tried
their hand at making dumplings. Some made their
dumplings too big, some made them misshapen,
some did not put enough filling, and some were
just
slow but all the participants had fun.
