The Singapore Waterski & Wakeboard Federation organized the 2005 RipCurl National Inter Varsity Polytechnic Wakeboarding Championships on Saturday 16th July 2005 at the Kallang Riverside Park.
This was the 4th annual national championships and a record number of selected athletes from various tertiary institutions turned up to compete. Some of the institutions include National University Of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore Management University (SMU), Singapore Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic and for the very first time, Republic Polytechnic.
All participants were divided into three different divisions: Novice, Intermediate and Open based on their techniques and skills. For the first time, two RP students Parvinder Singh (1st year Bio Medical Science Student) and Lee Junyi (2nd year Information Technology Student) participated in the Men’s Novice Division and pitted their skills against 16 other competitors. While Jun Yi was given an early exit in the competition, Parvinder held on to outclass 13 other competitors to claim the bronze medal.
“I trust that my performance was significant enough to justify a possibility of setting up a Wakeboard IG in RP, similar to what other varsities and polytechnic’s have done. I hope this win will inspire us in future competitions and create awareness for more RP students to be interested in wakeboarding.”
