On Monday, November 17, 2003, The Linux Users' Group
of Singapore (LUGS) launched the "LinuxDay 2003" simultaneously
at 4 polytechnics. This event aimed to raise the
awareness of Open-Systems Software and to promote
the use of Linux operating systems, among the members
of the student communities and the staff members
of the polytechnics.
At The Republic our programme consisted of four
sessions of talks, with external speakers drawn from
both the education and industry. More than 150 students
from the three schools turned up for the event. The
main sponsors of this event included SunMicro Systems
and Redhat Asia with support from IBM, Singapore
Computer Systems and SIG².
The event also signified another important milestone
for the Republic Polytechnic. In the quest to promote
cooperation with the interest group in the areas
of Open Source Technology and related domains, RP
has signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
with Linux Users’ Group of Singapore (LUGS).
The MOU aims to achieve the following:
- - to promote collaborative projects in open source
technologies, and related areas;
- - to engage in the exchange and sharing
of professional expertise; and
- - any other related objectives and areas
which both parties may mutually agree.
On the same day, RP also has signed the Memorandum
of Understanding (MOU) with the Special Interest
Group in Security and Information Integrity (SIG²).
RP will collaborate with SIG² in the area of
IT Security.
