| RP Scores 1st Runner Up Position at Robo Grand
Prix 2004 Republic Polytechnic recently participated
in Robo Grand Prix 2004 held at Suntec City from
November 16 - 19. RP sent two teams for these competitions.
They are "Jokers" & "Black horse".
Mr. Leong Chee Meng was facilitator in charge of
both teams.
Both teams did very well in the competition. RP's "Black
horse" did extremely very well in the qualifier
round and went into the finals. They competed with
Temasek Polytechnic (TP), Universities from Malaysia,
and China. In the finals, RP finished 1st
runner-up.
Engineering Talk at Jurong Regional Library
As part of the effort in reaching out and educating
the public about engineering, the engineering task
force set up by all 5 polytechnics organized a series
of talks at various public venues. On 11th December,
the talk was held at the newly built Jurong Regional
Library and the title of the talk was “The
Amazing Stories: Inventions and Challenges in Engineering”.
During this talk, Dr Loke Han Ying presented to
the audience some of the amazing successes and failures
in the history of engineering. Some of the highlights
include the analysis of the collapse of World Trade
Centre on 9/11, the story behind the misfortune
that
nearly ruined NASA’s billion dollar project,
the development of genetic engineering and nanotechnology,
as well as the future challenges in the field of
engineering.
