Following that, the President was invited to the presentation area of the
library, where our Principal, Professor Low, delivered RP’s mission statement in
a presentation to the President. The presentation involved a very interactive
Q&A session between the President and RP’s senior management staff. Next to the
presentation area, students stood by anxiously, awaiting their turn to present
their Professional Profiling, Final Year Project and Overseas Industrial
Attachment exhibits to the President. When the President finally approached the
student presenters, his warm and gentle demeanour drew the students to him. They
grasped the opportunity to exchange views with the President.
Upon exiting the library, President Nathan entered the foyer area once again
to a warm and rousing welcome from staff and students waiting there. After the
more staid presentations held in the library, the President was off to more
light-hearted mingling with staff and students.
On the way to the next stop,
President Nathan stopped occasionally to chat with students from various
interest groups who lined the walkways outside the library. Everyone wanted a
handshake and a photo opportunity with the President, and he was most obliging.
When President Nathan finally entered the Annex Hall, the same scenario ensued.
Groups of students were waiting to chat with the President during the informal
dialogue session. The dialogue session ended with the President chatting with
Professor Low, staff and students over snacks, and a nice cup of tea.
Next, President Nathan boarded a buggy to his next stop at the sports field.
Standing by in the sports field were hordes of cheering staff and students. In
fact, their cheers were so loud that the emcee was almost drowned out.
