Triumph International organized their first “Take the Plunge” Marketing
Competition in August 2005 to allow students from the various polytechnics and
universities to have a hands-on experience in designing a marketing campaign for
their 'Maximizers'. It attracted about 65 entries from the local universities and
polytechnics.
Although none of Republic Polytechnic (RP) teams were selected for the finals,
the judges were impressed by the proposals submitted by 2 of our teams and
decided to award them the Special Commendation Award. These awards were only given
to 5 teams, of which 3 teams were from the polytechnics (2 from Republic
Polytechnic and 1 from Nanyang Polytechnic). One of our RP teams walked away with a
Special Commendation Award for Most Comprehensive Market Research while
the other walked away with the Special Commendation Award for Creative
Marketing Concept for the Males Customers.
Team 'Bralievers', which comprises the following Year 1 students: Yeo Wei
Ting Serene, Low Jia Liang Denise, Liao Wei Sheng Wilson, and Chng Jun Quan, was
the winner of the Special Commendation Award for the Most Comprehensive Market
Research. The team had put in a lot of effort in terms of conducting a
questionnaire survey for over 120 respondents, 2 focus group discussions,
observation studies at the various departmental stores, as well as personal
interviews with several newspapers and magazines' vendors. One of the
judges, Ms Sheryl Wong, the Vice President of Marketing for Triumph International
(Singapore) was impressed by the amount of work the team had put in although
they were all non-business Year-one students.
