Team Republic Scores Win in POL-ITE Netball

Sheer grit and desire – that was the attitude displayed by RP’s Netball team in their second game for this POL-ITE Netball Championship season. The team suffered an agonizing defeat in their first game against Singapore Polytechnic last Monday, narrowly losing out by 2 points. By the 3rd quarter of the game, Team Republic was trailing SP by 11 points. But it must have been jitters that hit the team in this opening game, for at the final quarter, the RP spirit shone as they clawed their way back to narrow the gap to 2 points.

Though this last haul wasn’t enough to win the game, it fuelled strong belief in the team that they were capable of more. The team did not disappoint. Last night, the netballers flaunted their capability by notching a high-scoring win against Ngee Ann Polytechnic. With an injury to the team’s Goal Shooter Chen Hui before the game, vice-captain Zainab proved to be more than a worthy substitute by bringing home the goals with her partner in attack, Cheryl Ong. It was an inspiring display of grace upfront and a confident defense of the team’s goal at the back. Team Republic defeated NP in convincing style with a score of 70 – 44.

Reveling in this win, Captain Shahinaz enthused on the job well done – “Very satisfying, but we want to do more. There’s still some way to go.” Looking forward to the next game, Shahinaz adds, “We’ll give everything; our heart and soul”. Team Republic faces a tough game next against Temasek Polytechnic. The outcome of this game would be crucial to the team’s championship ambitions. But the netball players are only looking at one result – a victory. For the glory of RP, your support counts to the players. Rally on down to the sports hall this Friday, 6pm, where their hunt for victory continues. Let's go Team!
