Adventure Learning Club Camp Immersion

The annual Adventure Learning Club Camp Immersion was held from the 13th to 14th of October 2006. Over 30 members of the Adventure Learning Club (ALC) participated in this overnight “sleepless” camp held on campus.

"Camp Immersion" had its humble beginnings last year as a camp to bond members from the 5 different interest groups in ALC, namely; Kayaking, Rock Climbing, Trekking/Camping, Astronomy and Diving. Following its success and good reviews last year, the ALC management committee brought it back again in full force.

In this crowded urban jungle, the sense of ‘adventure’ is frequently and easily lost in our modern students. With the desire to rediscover the basic elements of adventure, special efforts went into executing one of the main highlights of the camp – a solo night trek at the forested area behind the campus hostels. On this trek, participants had to follow a designated trail in the forest on their own, with only sparsely distributed light sticks to guide them.

By the end of the 8 minute solo trek, all participants found themselves mentally challenged and undoubtedly exhilarated by the rush of fear. Everyone completed the trek with no injuries, well deserving a big round of applause for their bravery and adventurous spirit!

Through the rest of the night, it was games, games and more games! Everything from station-based telematches and star-gazing to all out water-wars were lined up for the adventurous participants. There was little time between the games and the laughter to catch one’s breath, let alone settle down to sleep.

The camp successfully concluded on 14th October 2006. Judging from the participants beaming smiles and laughter and the numerous thrilling reviews of the solo walk, we’d dare say that there will be another installment of Camp Immersion next year!
