RP Plays Host To The Launch Of Clean And Green Week 2006

On 5 November 2006 (Sunday), the Republic Polytechnic (RP) campus was all decked in its greenery to welcome Ministers, guests, the community, and of course, Prime Minister Mr Lee Hsien Loong, to the Launch of Clean and Green Week 2006. The event began with PM Lee arriving at RP to much fanfare from the RP Percussion Band.

After a welcome performance by RP students and the screening of an award-winning “Go Green” animation clip, Dr Teo Ho Pin, Mayor of the North West District gave a welcome address to the audience.

The Launch reached climax when 4 youths dressed as “Everyday Superheroes” conquered the stage and invited PM Lee, his Ministers, Professor Low Teck Seng (Principal & CEO, RP) and other guests to help fight pollution to reveal a clean and green environment for Singapore.

Following the Launch, 15 “We Are Ok!” And “Community In Bloom” awards were given out to recipients by PM Lee. Next, PM Lee, Ministers and guests were ushered to the new Admiralty Park next to Republic Polytechnic to participate in the mass community tree-planting activity.

Before proceeding to the reception area, PM Lee stopped by the RP exhibition booth and interacted with students who were standing by to brief the PM on the RP exhibits. PM Lee was also particularly amused and delighted to see an all-green banner which read “RP Students Go Green With PM Lee!” enroute to the VIP reception area.

At the CGW reception, RP staff and students once again had the opportunity to interact with PM Lee as he mingled with various youth, grassroots and activist groups.

All in all, it was an eventful day for RP as the host of such a major event, and we are sure the beautiful RP campus and our friendly staff and students left deep impressions upon all our visitors who came to RP on this day!
