Back to Part I
This is the first time 250 RP
students and staff participants are involved in such an activity. “There is
hope for the environment; because you did your part. We hope the
participants will experience nature while planting, and learn to cherish our
environment, as it belongs to each and everyone of us.” said Adrian Fok, Vice
President of Chiron Club.
Judging from the smiles of the
participants digging away at the RP plot assigned, we are sure this event was a
successful one.
Chiron Club’s events manager, Seah
Jing Hong excitedly exclaimed, “I have never planted a shrub in my whole life
and now that I have planted three at Admiralty Park, I feel that I have left my
GREEN mark and contributed to the environment. It feels really good!”
The above event was a
collaborative effort between Chiron Club (SAS club), Student union EXCO and the
National Parks Board.
Installation art-piece: Message in a
bottle
Ever thought its OK to throw your empty drink bottle anywhere when no one’s
looking?
The 2000 bottles “littered” across at the
south court yard (next to the library) certainly has a message to convey.
RP Staff (Shaun Soh and Luke Chen) and 5 students from the School of
Technology for the Arts (STA) created an eye-catching art installation piece
using the bottles collected by Chiron Club during the 10,000 plastic bottles
challenge.
Catch this rare sight on campus before it’s
gone. See for yourself – what you can do to the environment; if you didn’t care
enough.
“Clean and Green Bazaar” Competition
2006 (A school-wide entrepreneurial competition)
Republic Polytechnic’s educational pedagogy is based on the ideal of “learning
by doing”. This competition actually gave students the opportunity to become an
entrepreneur, and allowed them to have first-hand experience at running their
own business.
Organized by
Bazaar IG, the theme of the bazaar revolves around the environment and public
health. This competition was opened to the entire RP student population and
participants had to adhere to the theme assigned when
choosing their merchandise.
A total of 8
participating teams set up stalls and pitted against one another in
entrepreneurial skills.
Student Event Managers
We are also grateful to the 100 Students’ Council Project Managers who have
rendered assistance to National Environment Agency (NEA) in their efforts for
CGW 2006. It’s a tough job but they have executed it with much vigor and energy!
