As part of CIE’s continual efforts in educational outreach to schools, the department rolled out
two runs of Entrepreneurship Education Programme (EEP) for the secondary two students of the Singapore
Sports School (SSS).
CIE Academic Staff, Celine Chow, led this project with the assistance of over a dozen academic and administrative staff, who prepared materials and facilitated classes at the SSS campus.
The EEP aims to provide the students with an understanding of the dynamics of starting a business enterprise.
It consists of seven introductory lessons aimed at educating students on what it takes to start a business
from scratch. Lessons include:
• Who to partner
• Sourcing business ideas
• How to make a marketing pitch
• Basics of accounting and financial statements
In order for the students to apply what they have learnt during the EEP and to give them first-hand experience
at running their own business, a pushcart carnival competition was organized for them on 27th October, to be
held in RP.
The students were divided into 4 teams, with products ranging from handphone straps, soft toys to
milkshake and muffins. They may only be secondary two students, but they actually managed to make a total
profit of $270 during the short span of two hours.
The event received positive feedback from the SSS
students and inspired the imaginations of many young budding entrepreneurs.
This is the second time CIE had conducted the EEP for SSS. The programme was first implemented for SSS in 2005.
Pleased with the results, SSS invited CIE to conduct the EEP for their students again this year.
