Project Youthépreneur WOWs the crowd with their 2nd Thematic Event - "World on Wheels"

Project Youthépreneur’s second key thematic event for the year was successfully launched on 2nd December 2006. Titled WOW! – “World on Wheels”, a total of 49 students from Youth Entrepreneurship Interest Group (YEIG) and International Students Club (ISC) were involved in this event. Building on the recent success of “Heritage with a different touch”, this key event seeks to bring together products from all parts of the world including China, Japan, Korea, Finland, France, Thailand, Malaysia, and Hong Kong.

Students were involved in all 4 lessons of the Entrepreneurship Education Programme which serves to provide basic entrepreneurial skills needed to run a pushcart business successfully.  Enterprising students from ISC were then tasked with sourcing new business ideas while holidaying overseas. Eventually, each student brought back unique specialized products from the various countries to Singapore. The next step was creating specialized themes for their business and producing various marketing collaterals aimed at launching their business successfully.

The NLB Events Plaza was livened up with the flavors of the world, including limited edition scenic umbrellas from Xihu, chocolate fondue from France as well as anime characters from Japan.

To complement the international theme, various student performance groups were also invited to showcase various song and dance items. This included special performances from Myanmar, a display of Malay heritage of Silat, an Indian cultural dance as well as the buzz and sound of the Chinese Lion dance.

The afternoon of fun would not have been complete without involvement of the public.  Various game stations were set up by YEIG students, which allowed the public to engage in games such as Chinese Chess, Carrom, Origami, and Congkat.  Prizes sponsored by TravelPac were also given out to the public. Publicity from the official radio station for WOW, Dongli 88.3FM also helped to attract crowds to the event.

The afternoon raked in sales of over $100 per team, with some hitting way above the $200 mark.  This is a 100% rise in revenue for teams participating in the business for a second time.  This is indeed a credible showing for Project Youthépreneur that managed to WOW the crowd with great fun and activities.
