The QEHS
recertification audit was carried out over a total of 3 days at Republic
Polytechnic (RP). Despite the many challenges faced by various departments in
setting up the infrastructure and facilities over the last 8 months to ensure
continual operations, we managed to maintain the requisite quality standards
which was evident from the overall high conformance figures reported by the auditors
– a good showing given the size of our operations and the more rigorous treatment
of the recertification audit.
All these
would not be possible without the QEHS departmental representatives who have
been working tirelessly over the last 8 months to ensure that our system and
processes are “audit-ready”. Reporting Officers of the QEHS department
representatives also deserve credit for their support.
Teams from
the Office of Estates (OES) and School of Applied Science (SAS) deserve special
mention for bearing the brunt of the questions from the auditors. They have
obviously done RP proud by impressing the auditors with the good work they have
done preparing for the audit.
While we
celebrate another major milestone, one of the key messages which came through
the audit is that more work lies ahead of us to keep up with the demands of the
Work Safety and Health Act (WHSA). The Office of Procurement and Technology
(OPT) will be spending time in the next few months to work with QEHS
departmental representatives to improve RP’s processes and to ensure they are in
line with the WSHA.
