Launch of RP-Agilent Wireless Solutions Lab

On the 31st Jan 2007, Republic Polytechnic and Agilent Technologies jointly launched the RP-Agilent Wireless Solutions Lab in Republic Polytechnic’s campus. This joint laboratory between Republic Polytechnic (RP) and Agilent Technologies marks an important milestone in RP’s journey to establish itself as a leading R&D educational institution in educating the students, building its capabilities and assisting the industry in wireless systems technology development. This lab will serve as a fully integrated wireless system platform for the design, modeling, simulation, characterization, verification and testing of advanced wireless systems. This is the launch of the first Agilent Technologies fully integrated wireless laboratory with an Institute of Higher Learning in South Asia.

The event was graced by Guest-of-Honour, Mr. Peter Tan, President & Managing Director, Asia Operations Flextronics Technology (S) Pte Ltd; Chairman, School of Engineering Advisory Committee, Republic Polytechnic. A collaboration agreement was signed by Mr. Fong Yew Chan, Director of the School of Engineering, Republic Polytechnic and Mr. Dennis Au, Vice President for South Asia Pacific, Agilent Technologies. Witnessed by RP’s Principal & CEO Prof Low Teck Seng and Mr. Peter Tan, the landmark partnership aims to enhance RP’s academic standing and offerings, undertake further cutting-edge research in technology development and provide value-added services to the industry, in particular to the small and medium-sized enterprises through training and services.

As part of the launch programme, students from School of Engineering, Republic Polytechnic presented their learning experiences in using the state of art facilities of this joint laboratory. Finally, the students also demonstrated a series of projects at the joint laboratory to the guests. The demonstrations include WLAN Signal Creation, WLAN Transmitter Signal Analysis, RF Filter and Amplifier test and measurement, and GSM/3G Handset Connectivity testing.
