Impress at First Sight” – an important aspect of what is to come
for all our students as they step out of their comfort zone in campus and how
best can we share with them other than to invite Miss Singapore World 1999 and
her associate?
Organized by the image-professional interest group – Pacesétter IG, the
hour-long CE talk was held on 31 July 2007. To cater to the different needs of
both the male and female students, they were separated by gender into two
lecture theatres for the talk. With a combined seating capacity of 578 in both
lecture theatres, students were jostling into the limited space and occupied
every breathing space they could find, including the stairways! The response was
overwhelming with a total of 989 students turning up for the session – it was
the maximum number we could squeeze into both the theatres and regrettably
turning away the ones who came slightly later.

The guest speakers for the talk were Ms. Audrey Quek (Miss
Singapore World 1999) and Ms. Sally Tang. Both are qualified image consultants
and they shared with the students on various aspects such as the facts and
psychology of colours, do’s and don’t of dressing as well as tips on personal
grooming in a highly-interactive manner.

It was a fruitful and enriching experience for the students. In
their reflection journals after that, many mentioned that it never dawned upon
them that some of the simple concepts, such as a proper handshake matters so
much. What was once thought as a session only meant for females turned out to be
one which was beneficial to their counterparts as well. Looks like our guys are
all ready to impress as well!
