DIEM Students Present JIVE Fiesta 2007

JIVE Fiesta is an initiative started for the current cohort of second year Diploma in Integrated Events Management (DIEM) students by the DIEM facilitators of the Project Management and Event Branding modules. For the fiesta, the 123 students under DIEM were divided into their respective classes and tasked to organize a lunch-time fundraising event within the campus, for a charity of their choice.

First, the students had to go through a number of class discussions to decide which charity they wanted to adopt for the Fiesta. In the end, the 5 charities adopted were:

1. Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
2. Disabled People’s Association
3. Singapore Cancer Society
4. Make-A-Wish Foundation
5. Sunlove

JIVE Fiesta 07 kicked off with a bang with two events held concurrently of the second of August. The students of E25M and E25Q both put in a tremendous amount of effort for the events respectively.

The students of E25M converted the forum at Agora South into a disco equipped with disco lights, music, drinks and chocolate fondue stations. The response was overwhelming and before long, the forum was filled with students having a good time dancing to the music that was spun by the DJ.

Over at the Agora Halls, the students at E25Q face throngs of students queuing to enter the haunted house they have created. It was an amazing effort as the halls was converted into a maze filled with spooky figures, creepy artifacts and eerie music.

With the success the first two classes enjoyed, E25N wanted to do no less the next day. They managed to convert the Agora South atrium into a candy house where students can lose themselves amongst the wide selection of chocolates, sweets, candies, donuts, cupcakes and cookies up for sale. There was also an exciting round of food-eating competition where participants wolfed down the goodies in an attempt to emerge as the champion.

On the 7th of August, the students of E25P turned the forum at Agora south into RP’s version of the world cyber games. Contestants pitted their skills in groups against one another to be the king of counter strike in RP. It was a nail biting session where was no clear winner until the very last moment. The winners were rewarded with prizes sponsored by New Urban Male, Cathay Cineplex and E2 Max.

To wrap up JIVE Fiesta, E25L decided to challenge themselves by constructing a three-dimension heart shaped figure made entirely out of cans! In the process, they even broke the previous record held by students from Nanyang Technology University (NTU). Complementing their feat was a series of performances by the IGs under Create.Republic and they were all well received judging by the thunderous applause they got after the performances.

Through the four-day JIVE Fiesta event, the students of DIEM managed to raise close to $5000 for the five charities they have adopted and they are all very proud of their achievements.
